The
Filipino-American, an online business resource guide for Southern California
Filipino Americans, is organizing a benefit show to raise funds for the
survivors of the mega typhoon, Haiyan, that hit the Philippines last November
8, 2013.

San Diego, The Filipinos benefit show
will be held on December 14, 2013 with a night full of fashion, singing and
traditional Philippine dances!
Doors
will open at 6:30 in the evening where guests will be ushered to SeaWorld’s
Penguin Center. At 7:15 the show will open by CMN Production’s beautiful and
talented artists, 2013 Tawag ng Tanghalan Champion Melanie Joie Jimenez, 2012
Tawag ng Tanghalan Champion Emily Talampas and San Diego’s Mega Star Micaela
Marquez. Hors d'oeuvre and non-alcoholic drinks will be provided for all the
attendees. As the crowd begins to settle down a fabulous fashion show by San
Diego's own Andre Soriano will stun the audience.
Andre Soriano channels the high fashion and high art; with influences
from cosmopolitan cities worldwide such as New York, Los Angeles, Paris,
London, Milan and Tokyo. Andre Soriano designs includes all type of garments
from active wear to classic evening wear, and specializes in elegant wedding
and couture gowns.
Styled to Rock, a Fashion Reality Show 'Executive Produced' by
Robyn Rihanna Fenty gave him an exposure of having a celebrity wear his
clothes, which will allow him the means to expand his clothing line beyond San
Diego. Andre's fashion mantra is "Peace, love, glamour and fashion!"
Andre Soriano will
be showcasing bits and pieces of his collections, Old Hollywood glamour, Bridal
gowns, Punk deluxe.
The
night will close with our feature performance from PASACAT (Philippine Arts
Performing Company).
PASACAT established in 1974 is a Philippine folk dance, but in San Diego, it began
as the acronym for the Philippine-American Society and Cultural Arts Troupe.
Today, PASACAT’s mission is to preserve and promote the Asian Pacific culture
through the arts, thereby, extending goodwill and enhancing cultural
understanding.
PASACAT
will present six different numbers that will reflect the culture of the greatly
affected area of the Philippines by Haiyan, the Visayas Region.
100%
of the ticket and silent auction proceeds from the event will go to Operation
Samahan.
OPERATION SAMAHAN is a community health
center that emerged within the Filipino community over the last forty years.
The agency serves low-income families and individuals in the County of San
Diego in two (2) strategic areas with a high density population of
Filipinos/Asian and other low-income, uninsured individuals — National City
(Southern San Diego County) and Mira Mesa (North Central San Diego).
In
the Philippines, Operation Samahan has a long standing partnership with V olunteers
for Visayans. Operation Samahan will be
forwarding all the proceeds from the show to Volunteers for Visayans. (www.visayans.org)
HAIYAN
SURVIVORS, PHILIPPINES through Volunteers for the Visayans
Volunteer for the Visayans (VFV), is a registered non-profit, non-government
organization located in Tacloban City, Philippines. It is registered with the
local Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to distribute planned
and professional social welfare services to
assist underprivileged and undeserved local communities.
Since
being founded in 2004, VFV has dedicated itself to contributing towards
sustainable developments in the areas of child welfare, community development,
education and public health through its broad based social welfare programs. In
particular VFV has invested time and resources to develop a number of long term
Community Projects as well as a comprehensive Child Sponsorship Program which combined have led to over 150 children from
disadvantaged backgrounds to have the means to go to school and pursue
mainstream education.
To date, 3,976
confirmed deaths, 1,598 missing and 18,175 injured, according to the National
Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council of the Philippines.
The
Filipino-American along with the many volunteers from the entire San Diego and
Los Angeles will passionately strive to raise funds on this night through
